Intelligent weight lifting and workouts
You want to start your workout with some sort of aerobic activity. This can include walking, treadmill, elliptical or cycling. You want to get your blood flowing. Do this for five to ten minutes then move into your workout. You want to work the different muscle groups, upper body one day and the lower body the next day. Upper body workouts include arms, shoulders and back while lower body workouts include the legs. Abdominals can be worked every day. You want to make certain that you are doing the exercises correctly and that your form is correct. It may be wise to enlist the aid of a trainer, at least at first, to ensure this.
As you increase muscle mass you will burn fat and build muscle. If you really want to get cut, you can try interval training by doing exercises that build muscle and interjecting 5 minute sessions of aerobic training between sets. Exercises that build muscle are compound exercises, exercises that require the use of more than one muscle to complete it. For example, a bicep curl only requires the bicep in order for the exercise to be property executed. It is an isolation exercise. Four compound exercises that build muscle are squats, bench press, military press and deadlifts.
Smart, healthy eating
When you want to burn fat and build muscle, you need a healthy diet that encourages that. High protein, low fat and low sugar can help you accomplish your goals. You want to eat lean meats, eggs, fish, cheese, nuts, beans and certain grains like barley and quinoa. Keep your diet balanced with lots of fresh vegetables. Lightly steam them or eat them raw as over cooking will cause them to lose nutrients. You should also eat every 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours and make sure that you eat some good quality protein each time.
Good quality periods of rest
While you know that exercising will help you burn fat and build muscle, did you know that getting good quality rest helps too? You need to get a good night's sleep each night because sleep is when your body recharges and repairs. You should also give each muscle group a 24 hour rest period between work outs. In other words, work your upper body muscle group then rest it for 24 hours. While your upper body is resting, you can work your lower body; just make sure that you allow it to rest for 24 hours as well.
When you combine these three strategies you will burn fat and build muscle. You may find, however, that after awhile you will hit a plateau and it will be necessary to change up your routine. If you are doing interval training, change up your various aerobic activities often and increase your weights as necessary. You will find that you get lean and gain mass easily.
